Meeting new people via Twitter can be tough to do.

I show you why people love Twitter by hosting the "Twitter Party". I boil down what works here and in my BusinessWeek column, "What They Don't Teach You At Stanford Business School"

7 Twitter tips

1. Don't follow more than five people to start.

2. Follow real people you know and maybe a few people you do not.

3. Have your real pic and one line bio

4. Add me and send me an email (with your cell in the subj line) and I will tweet about you Larry@larry chiang.com

5. Set a twitter background. Select "Settings", "Design" "Change background image", click browse and pick a photo

6. If you wanna read someone's twitter, you don't have to follow them. You can just type in their URL. For example, you wanna follow (stalk) Mark Cuban, you can simply go to www.Twitter.com/markcuban

Remember, @larryChiang = http://www.twitter.com/larrychiang

7. Tweet a couple times per day to start and watch you ratio of friends to followers. Try to keep this ratio 1:1
